Chocolate Stout Cake

Our delicious driver, Mike has made this cake lots of times and it always meets the approval of the brewery staff! This version includes a whole bottle of our Stout (or Coffee Milk Stout) and we guarantee it’ll be a crowd pleaser!

The Ingredients & Things You'll Need:

175g Self Raising Flour
275g Dark Brown Sugar
2 Large Eggs
50g Cocoa Powder
110g Dark Chocolate
100g Icing Sugar
1 Bottle Corby Stout or Coffee Milk Stout
1 pinch of Baking Powder
50g Butter
2 x 20cm loose based tins.

The Method:

Step 1.

Add your dry ingredients and mix well.

Step 2.

Add your eggs.

Step 3.

Using an electric whisk mix everything together.

Step 4.

Add ½ of your chosen GCB stout and mix well, until smooth.

Step 5.

Line your tins with grease proof paper and pour the mixture evenly between to two tins.

Step 6.

Place in a pre-heated oven (180c) for 25 – 30 minutes. (When ready the cake will bounce back when pressed).

Step 7.

Separate from your tins and allow to cool fully.

Step 8.

Melt your chocolate over a saucepan of boiling water in a bowl.

Step 9.

Add a little stout and stir well.

Step 10.

Add butter and whisk together.

Step 11.

Add icing sugar and keep on whisking!

Step 12.

Spread icing between and all over the cake.

Step 13.

Decorate with chocolate shavings, using a flat knife to shave a flat bar of dark chocolate.
